Located at the distance of around 70 km from Cochin in the southern part, Alappuzha is called as the “Venice of the East” for its canals, backwaters and greenery connecting to Kerala’s famous snaking backwaters. If you are planning your memorable holidays in Kerala or want to rejuvenate your mind and body, then certainly it is an ideal place to explore. However, the best time to visit Alappuzha is counted from September to March; while monsoon tourism is famous to enjoy between May to August.

Being inlaid with channels supporting its thriving backwater tourism, Alappuzha is known for houseboats. Take a houseboat cruise along the backwaters that are fully furnished, well equipped and perfect to accommodate during your holidays. You can visit the villages, enjoy Toddy that is a traditional mildly alcoholic drink made from coconut sap, watch birds, relax in the middle of the lake, and move towards Kuttanad – that is known as the Rice bowl of Kerala and a lot more.

Alleppey beach is also another wonderful place to visit during your Alappuzha tours. It is perfect beach to hang out in Kerala.

Temple festival is very famous here. Explore Padanilam Parabrahma Temple that is located in the eastern part of the district. Here, non-Hindus are also allowed to enter the temple. Among different temple festivals Ambalapuzha temple festival is most impressive one.

Churches in Alappuzha are also very much popular like St Mary’s Church in Champakulam that is counted as one of the oldest churches in Kerala. Sreekrishna Swamy Temple, Karimadi Kuttan, Marari-beach, Mararikulam and Main Beach are some wonderful places to visit during your tour.

How to Reach Alappuzha

By Air : Alappuzha is very close to Cochin International airport. There are regular flights from different airports in India and from certain in the world. You can take taxi or bus from here to reach Alappuzha.

By Train : Cochin is the nearest city linked with rail line to reach Alappuzha. However, Kozhikode, Thiruvanananthapuram, etc are also connected. You can take taxi or bus from here to reach Alappuzha.

By Bus : Regular buses are operated from Cochin to Alappuzha that takes hardly 1 hour and 30 minutes. There are regular buses from other parts of Kerala too. It is well connected via NH 47. In this way, you can also reach by your own car or other vehicle as per your convenience.
