Lakshadweep, the tiniest Union Territory of India and the only coral island chain, is a wonderful and must see place in India with archipelago consists of 36 islands, 12 atolls, 3 reefs and 5 submerged banks. Spread in total area of 32 sq.kms with lagoons enclosed by the atolls cover an area of 4200 sq.kms, its territorial waters extend to 20,000 sq.kms and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) to 4,00,000 sq.kms.

However, among all the islands, only 10 of these islands namely, Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy are inhabited. Not forget to mention the popualirty of Kavaratti that is the Administrative Headquarters of the Union Territory. The islands are restricted area and permit from the Administration is required to visit the islands.

How to Reach Lakshadweep?

When it comes to reach Lakshadweep, you will have only two options to choose that include air and sea.

By Air: Cochin International Airport links Lakshadweep with the mainland in the state of Kerala. Flights from this airport are available to most of the airports in India and to selected foreign destinations. Agatti is the only airport in Lakshadweep well connected to Cochin. Not forgetting to mention helicopter transfer Agatti to Kavaratti throughout the year. The flight from Cochin to Agatti takes approximately one hour thirty minutes.

By Sea: Lakshadweep is well connected via sea and passenger ships. There are total seven passenger ships operate between Cochin and Lakshadweep that takes around 18 hours to reach.

These ships are center of attraction in them that are known for offering different classes of accommodation ranging from A/C Deluxe Class with two berth cabins to A/C First Class with four berth cabins and Tourist Class with A/C seating to different others. These seven have cafeteria and snack bars, entertainment lounge, video shows and upper-deck promenade etc in MV Kavaratti, MV Lakshadweep Sea and MV Arabian Sea. Not forgetting to mention the availability of doctor on call on board these ships.
